A further 61 people died after testing positive for coronavirus, bringing the UK death toll to 45,738.

The latest figures, released today by the Government, cover fatalities in all settings, including hospitals, care homes and the wider community.

Meanwhile, tourists returning from Spain will have to quarantine for 14 days after fears of a potential second wave convinced ministers to remove the country from the UK’s safe travel list.

The so-called ‘travel corridor’ with Spain has been shut down after it reported more than 900 new daily infections for the past two days.
