Another 114 people have died of coronavirus in the UK, taking the total to 45,233, the Department of Health confirmed on Friday.
The latest figures cover fatalities in all settings, including hospitals, care homes and the wider community.
Meanwhile, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has reportedly called for an urgent review into the manner in which Public Health England (PHE) counts Covid-19 deaths.
A scientist has found that PHE is ‘over-exaggerating’ the daily death toll because it counts people as victims if, after testing positive for coronavirus, they die of any cause at any time.
