WWE has been rocked by reports of multiple positive coronavirus tests – and three stars have already confirmed their results.
On Thursday, it was claimed that a number of people – including staff, personnel and wrestlers – had tested positive for the respiratory illness, and although the company is yet to officially confirm or deny the news, a few have started to speak out.
In WWE’s only comment on the reports, the wrestling giant said: ‘WWE will continue COVID-19 testing of its talent, production crew and employees in advance of TV productions for the foreseeable future.’
Last week, production was delayed after an unnamed member of the developmental roster tested positive.
Here are the stars to speak out about their test results:
Kayla Braxton
Backstage interviewer and The Bump host Kayla Braxton took to Twitter to confirm she tested positive for Covid-19, while also claiming she actually already had the virus back in March.
Kayla – who has since deleted her Twitter account – wrote: ‘Was keeping it quiet but since everyone else is sharing, I feel like it is my responsibility to share this PSA: YOU CAN GET COVID-19 MORE THAN ONCE!
‘I had it back in early March and then thought I was invincible after I recovered. Not true. Dont be dumb like me. (sic)’
She later confirmed her social media break on Instagram, adding: ‘It’s been an emotionally taxing several weeks so I’m going to take a little hiatus from social media. In the meantime, be safe. Be healthy. And please, be kind.’
Adam Pearce
WWE producer Adam Pearce also confirmed a positive test on Thursday, just one day after his 42nd birthday.
The retired wrestler – who works behind the scenes but has recently made occasional appearances on SmackDown – wrote: ‘Covid was NOT on my birthday list.’
He went on to thank everyone for their kind words and messages of support during such a tough time.
He tweeted: ‘Huge thanks to the many colleagues, mentors, friends, and wrestling fans alike that all reached out. Appreciate it more than me, Mama, and the kiddos could ever articulate.’
Renee Young
Renee Young was the first major name in WWE to reveal she had tested positive for Covid-19, with the news coming days after Fox axed her weekly WWE Backstage show.
She tweeted: ‘Man. What a few days. My show gets cancelled and I get Covid. Wear your masks and wash your hands. Stay safe, everyone’
Meanwhile, Renee’s husband Jon – who previously appeared in WWE as Dean Ambrose – was pulled from last night’s episode of All Elite Wrestling’s ‘Dynamite’.
Boss Tony Khan tweeted: ‘Recently @JonMoxley had contact with someone who had contact with someone who has COVID-19.
‘Mox did the right thing & warned us. Doc asked him to stay home & get tested to protect us here at our test site.’
