Martin and Roman Kemp have launched their new breakfast show, Sunday Best, and are making sure it’s anti-racists following the Black Lives Matter movement.
Just last month, George Floyd lost his life after a policeman knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes, seeing people descend onto the streets to protest both racism and police brutality.
And now the father and son duo are doing everything they can to be more inclusive, with Roman asking himself how he can do more going forward.
When chatting with Metro Online, the 27-year-old reflected on both the protests and coronavirus pandemic where he called 2020 a ‘time to practice gratitude for what we do have and not what we don’t and can’t do.’
He said: ‘The Black Lives Matter movement has really made people question how much are they doing to be anti-racist, and how much more can they do?

‘I brought that to myself, you know, how much more can I do? What, what else can I do to help this? I’m trying my best to educate myself. I’m talking about it on a radio show that’s never spoken about something like that. I think it’s such an important thing to do.’
Referencing the far-right protests, which happened last week, the I’m A Celebrity star continued: ‘Those protests on Saturday, white horrible men on the telly who quite frankly made me embarrassed be British and white – it’s disgusting.
‘And I’m actually really glad that from what I’m seeing, people are recognising that that is wrong, and that actually still exists in our country. So I feel like, in terms of lockdown, I think it’s just provided questions that needed addressing.’
And the pair say they’re 100% more aware of black representation when working on their own show, Martin and Roman’s Sunday Best – which sees them invite celebrity guests into the studio who team with families video calling in as they take on different games and challenges.
‘I think it should feel uncomfortable. You should have those awkward conversations with work,’ Roman confessed. ‘We need to make sure that there’s black representation within the show, you have to make sure that it’s the right thing to do, because that is how we can progress as a society.
‘It’s not painting this picture of everyone’s a white, privileged family, it’s being able to show the real factor in giving everyone an equal opportunity to enjoy themselves.’
He added: ‘I think it’s a good thing that, you know, finally, it’s okay to have an awkward conversation.’
Martin, 58, agreed with his son, and said: ‘Exactly. Exactly. And it’s been a long time coming as well. So, let’s hope we see things change.’
This week the duo will be joined by Judge Rinder and Maya Jama – and have been spoilt for choice over who to pick as their celebrity guests.
‘I thought it’s gonna be really difficult to get some guests at this point,’ the Spandau Ballet star said. ‘But everybody wants to do it, everybody, because everybody wants to get out of their house!
‘And honestly, we are inundated with people who want to guest and we have some really great guests coming on the show, it’s brilliant.’
Martin and Roman’s Sunday Best airs Sundays at 8.30am on ITV.
