Penn Badgley has opened up on how he finds watching early runs of Gossip Girl ‘uncomfortable’.

The 33-year-old appeared in the teen drama between 2008 and 2012, alongside the likes of  Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Taylor Momsen and Chace Crawford.

And when reuniting with the Nate Archibald star over video call for Variety’s Actors on Actors, the duo recalled their time on the show.

Penn said: ‘I know that I watched with my now wife, with Domino [Kirke], before we got married. It must’ve been six months after we met.

‘She had never seen it, and that’s the last time I can remember seeing an episode. I remember even then, it has nothing to do with the show, but it was very hard to watch.’

He smirked: ‘These snapshots of yourself when you’re 20, 21, 22 years old. Who can enjoy that? Sometimes it’s just uncomfortable.’

And it appeared Chance felt the same, adding: ‘Buddy, you have to strap me to a gurney and pop my eyes open like Clockwork Orange. But no, it would be interesting to see the first couple maybe.’

But while the actors might not want to look back on the series all too often, it turns out they’d be more than happy to reunite with their castmates for a potential watch party – and we are in!

Talking about the prospect of getting the gang back together, Chance teased: ‘To go back and open that time capsule, I think there would be some nostalgic value.

‘We’re doing that when you come to L.A. We’ll have a drink.’

‘A little watching party. Dude, if we live-tweet a viewing of any episode of Gossip Girl, people would love that,’ Penn agreed.

Since leaving the show, the actor has gone onto star in the Netflix’s thriller, You, as bad guy we all love to hate, Joe Goldberg.

Before the coronavirus outbreak was declared a pandemic back in March, filming for season three had started to get underway.

While not much is know about the upcoming instalment, showrunner Sera Gamble recently confirmed they have big plans for Joe’s next chapter.

‘I will say that we have an idea for season three that is SO exciting that people talk about it in the [writer’s] room every day,’ she told Cosmopoitan UK. ‘So my fingers are crossed… I’ll just say, I hope we get the chance to keep making the show.’

You is available to stream now on Netflix.
