The Lamborghini Paddy McGuinness had crashed in while filming for Top Gear had reportedly failed its MOT just weeks before.
Earlier this month, Paddy reassured fans he is doing ok after reports surfaced claiming the star had ‘cheated death’ after crashing the flashy sports car.
He was said to have been left ‘shaken’ by the incident and blamed oil on a wet road for causing the car to lose control, while showing off the damage the crash had caused to the Lamborghini.
Paddy’s wife Christine McGuinness assured fans that the crash ‘wasn’t as bad’ as it was made out to be and joked ‘the Lambo got it more’, while insisting Paddy was ‘absolutely fine’.
Now, new reports have surfaced claiming the Lamborghini Paddy had been driving had reportedly failed its MOT test just weeks before.
According to Daily Star, vehicle logs show the super car failed its MOT back in May due to faulty windscreen wipers and problems with the drive shaft joints.
Both issues were corrected and the Lambo allegedly passed its MOT three days later.
An advisory was also issued about one of the car’s back tyres being worn. The DVLA states advisories should be closely monitored, but they do not need immediate attention.
A BBC spokesperson, however, has told Metro.co.uk the Lamborghini had a fully valid MOT certificate at the time of filming and its tyres were ‘legal and roadworthy’.
‘The car had a fully valid MOT certificate for filming and all tyres were legal and roadworthy. Top Gear also had an independent vehicle inspector extensively examine the car’s condition prior to the shoot,’ they said.
‘A specialist supercar mechanic accompanied the production team throughout the day.
‘Tyres are one of the most frequently checked aspects of the cars when we film and a replacement set were on standby should the mechanic had deemed a change necessary.’
Metro.co.uk has reached out to Paddy’s rep for comment.
