Netflix have been naughty little devils and quietly finally revealed the release date for Lucifer season 5a.
The first half of the ‘final’ season (unless rumours are to be believed) will drop on 21 August, with the streaming service only announcing it if you go looking for it.
Despite fan demands for news of the show’s return, leading man Tom Ellis and the rest of the cast – including Lauren German, DB Woodside and Lesley-Ann Brandt – have all remained silent about when the crime drama/comedy would be back on screens.
But Netflix clearly couldn’t contain the news any longer, and quietly put a notice up on their service, which you can see if you search to watch the show.
It didn’t take long for Lucifans to pick up on it though – and were soon flooding websites and fan forums with the happy news that we’ll finally know what’s going on with the Devil himself now he’s back in hell.
We last left Lucifer (Tom Ellis) returning to his place as the king of Hell, shortly after declaring his love to Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German).
Fearing a demon uprising to Earth if he didn’t return to Hell, the future of the gang remains uncertain, with Eve (Inbar Lavi) heading off on her own, leaving Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) heartbroken.
Then there’s Amenadiel (DB Woodside) and Linda (Rachael Harris) who are dealing with being parents to a half-human, half-angel baby.
Showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson have been dropping tiny hints about what’s expected – including the show’s first full-length musical episode.
Plus there’s the biggest bombshell of all – the arrival of Lucifer and Amenadiel’s dear old Dad, God himself (Dennis Haybert).
Something tells us that’s not exactly going to be the happy family reunion some of them will be wanting…
