Erling Haaland has predicted a ‘bright future’ for his ‘amazing’ Borussia Dortmund team-mate Jadon Sancho, who has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.
The 20-year-old has lit up the Bundesliga this season, registering 17 goals and 16 assists in 31 games.
Sancho is believed to be one of the Red Devils’ top priority signings for the next transfer window, but they’re unwilling to meet Dortmund’s £120 million valuation of the winger.
And Haaland, who United were also interested in before he made the switch to Germany from RB Salzburg in January, lavished praise on the England international.
‘His goals and assists this season speak for itself,’ Haaland told BT Sport.
‘You can see when he scores goals and dribbles past players it looks so easy. I played against him when I was 16 or 17 years old and he was the exact same – dribbling past players.
‘When I played against him then he was the best player I played against and now that I get to play with him it’s fantastic.
‘He assists me and we played good together. He’s as young as me and he’s amazing. He has a very bright future.’
Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that the coronavirus pandemic has had a big financial impact on the club, which may put any mega-money transfers on hold.
‘I think the pandemic has hit everyone really hard,’ said Solskjaer ahead of United’s FA Cup quarter-final tie at Norwich on Saturday.
‘I still think we need to wait and see how things are panning out to know the real effects of the pandemic, to know what kind of financial state we are in.
‘You see some teams invest, some teams don’t. We’ll have to take a big look at things ourselves to see how hard we’ve been hit. I know the club has announced a few numbers before.
‘It’s not for me to say here now we are going to have X amount because I don’t really know. I don’t really know how hard we have been hit. We are a financially strong club, but we are also probably being hit more than anybody else.’
