Emmerdale’s special lockdown episodes are well underway, and already they have given viewers an insight into how their favourite mainstays are coping during the period indoors, and the next batch will continue to do just that — albeit with different characters.
One of next week’s episodes centres around Nicola and Jimmy (Nicola Wheeler and Nick Miles) as they navigate life in lockdown together.
Speaking about being asked to take part, actor Nick said: ‘It was a bit of a shock. I got a call from one of our producers, but I always panic when I get a call from a producer.
‘I thought it might have been a phone call to fire me, but it was actually about the lockdown episode! I was absolutely thrilled to be asked as there are only six episodes and Chris Gill has written a terrific script.’
This particular episode finds conflict aplenty between Jimmy and Nicola, as the latter begins to believe that her life isn’t all that exciting — a revelation which leaves Jimmy at a loss over what to do.
As a result, viewers can expect plenty of drama, as the pair seemingly re-evaluate not only their lives but also their marriage, and Nick reckons it’s an episode viewers will remember as a result.
He enthused: ‘I think it’s Emmerdale gold, it’s the kind of thing people will remember, the lockdown episodes will be speaking directly to people about what they have just experienced.
‘Jimmy and Nicola going through this is always going to be fun and with three children! I know from my sisters that lockdown is a more difficult time with children.
‘Nicola and Jimmy are busy people, Jimmy is a business man and Nicola is always very active and suddenly they can’t do anything, they’re just running a household and that’s it.’
