The UK’s official coronavirus death toll now stands at 42,927 after another 171 people were confirmed to have died having contracted the virus.
It followed the announcement that 15 deaths had been recorded on Monday – the lowest number since lockdown began in March.
Meanwhile, Boris Johnson has confirmed there will be a further easing of the lockdown in England from July 4, allowing hairdressers and pubs to reopen, while people will be able to go on UK ‘staycations’ and be reunited with their families.
However, the PM warned the public yesterday evening that ‘the fight is far from over.’
He claimed the ‘national hibernation’ was ending, but the Government’s own scientific experts signalled that people would still need to accept significant restrictions on their way of life for months to come because the threat posed by coronavirus had not gone away.
