Another 100 people in the UK lost their lives after testing positive for coronavirus, bringing the total national death toll to 43,514 on Saturday.
These figures, announced by the Department for Health and Social Care, include fatalities in all settings including care homes and the wider community.
Meanwhile, holiday bookings have ‘exploded’ after foreign breaks were given the green light amid plans for quarantine measures to be dropped for certain destinations.
Ministers confirmed the requirement to self-isolate for 14 days upon returning to the UK will be scrapped for a slew of popular destinations – meaning summer getaways to France, Greece and Spain could be back on the cards.
