Piers Morgan has branded Prime Minister Boris Johnson a ‘caricature invention’ after comparing him to Worzel Gummidge.
Mr Johnson made a public appearance following the Black Lives Matter protests where he told the demonstrators that he would not support those who ‘break the law, or attack the police, or desecrate public monuments.’
The Good Morning Britain host was quick to retweet the message, and shared his own views, writing: ‘Brush your bloody hair, Prime Minister.
‘So disrespectful to appear like Worzel Gummidge when speaking about something so serious.’
After receiving copious amount of complaints from his followers for comparing the PM to the famous scarecrow, the 55-year-old decided to address Worzel-gate during his breakfast show.
‘My mother always said if you’re going to do a meeting or something important, you should be smart, polish your shoes, give a firm handshake and act like you’re meeting the queen…’ he stated.
‘And the Prime Minister of the country can’t even get a trim of his hair.’
Piers’ co-host Susanna Reid stopped him in his tracks as she explained she hasn’t been able to get a haircut since the coronavirus lockdown.
After the father-of-four questioned her claims, she quipped: ‘Do you want to check my split ends? My hair grows straight down there is no style to it.’
But Piers was quick to point out ‘You’ve obviously brushed it.’
Turning his attention back to the PM, he tried to expose the leader of the country’s hair habits, adding: ‘I’ve seen him ruffle it up before he does an interview to create a Boris look.
‘If you’re the Prime Minister of Great Britain, and you’re talking about racism, brush your hair! It’s basic courtesy.
‘No more excuses, every wife and partner male or female has to help out with hair cutting because of Boris Johnson. He made the rules.’
Later on in the programme, Piers couldn’t shake the topic of Mr Johnson – whose full name is Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson – saying: ‘His name isn’t even Boris, his name is Alexander, his family call him Alexander.
‘Boris is like this caricature invention that he has created.’
Piers spat: ‘You watch what the family do when they’re around Boris, no one calls him Boris.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
