Beyonce has surprised fans with a trailer for her new movie Black Is King, which is set to arrive on Disney Plus next month.
Inspired by her Lion King album visuals, the trailer features Beyonce, her husband Jay Z and their children Blue Ivy and twins Rumi and Sir.
Few details are known about the mystery movie but it does appear to be a celebration of blackness in the midst of the Black Lives Matter movement.
The minute-long trailer is narrated by Beyonce, 38, and features a group of black men huddled together before showing an African king on his golden throne.
‘A journey is a gift,’ Bey says as she sits upon a horse.
With her Lion King: The Gift song Already as the soundtrack, Beyonce and Jay Z are seen walking towards a large portrait in a gallery. As they admire the stunning piece of art, it’s clear they’re looking at themselves with Beyonce’s famous twin dancers as cherubs holding Rumi and Sir.
The Single Ladies singer then cradles a small baby – possibly one of the twins – and says: ‘The answers have never left you… You can’t wear a crown with your head down.’
Jay Z, 50, chimes in: ‘Nothing is complete on its own.’
After scenes of Beyonce dancing, wearing the most dazzling outfits and reading a book titled Black Gods and Kings, the trailer closes with a young black boy hurtling towards Earth as a meteor.
The release date is listed as 31 July and Disney Plus will stream the film.
It comes just weeks after reports that Beyonce was in talks with Disney for an £80 million deal to release three films after her success with The Lion King, in which she voiced Nala in the live-action remake of the Disney classic.
An insider told The Sun: ‘A source claimed: ‘Beyoncé has become a major player for Disney and is the perfect fit for their brand.
‘She’s worked on a number of projects for them, including voicing Nala in the reboot of The Lion King, and now they’re keen to secure her for more projects. Disney have put forward a deal worth around £80million, which will secure Beyoncé for three major projects, including the Black Panther sequel.’
Earlier in June, Beyonce released the track Black Parade in celebration of Juneteenth and features her honouring her black roots.
Beyonce’s Black Is King arrives on Disney Plus on Friday 31 July.
