Arsenal are now considering keeping Dani Ceballos beyond the end of the current season, according to reports in Spain.
The midfielder has spent the campaign on loan from Real Madrid and had worked his way back into Mikel Arteta’s plans before the coronavirus pandemic halted the Premier League season.
Ceballos has made it clear that his long-term aim is to establish himself as a first-team regular at Real Madrid.
But the 23-year-old was unable to secure a regular role under Zinedine Zidane last term and injuries this season have prevented him from making a major impact at Arsenal.
Reports in Spain last month claimed that Arsenal had no plans to extend Ceballos’ loan and were not considering purchasing the midfielder in the summer window.
However, AS are now reporting that Arsenal are keen for Ceballos to remain at the club for another season and are planning a move ‘in the coming weeks’.
Speaking about his future earlier this month, Ceballos told Canal Sur Radio: ‘My objective is to play in the European Championship and Olympic Games and when they are happening you need to find a team where you feel important.
‘The future is far away, we can’t predict what will happen in a month and a half.
‘Now we are focused on the postponed game against Manchester City on the 17th.’
